Kitchen Remodel in North Miami, FL: Wood Up Top, Ocean Blue in the Middle
From custom cabinetry and quartz countertops to full open-concept renovations, MIA Remodeling handles your entire kitchen remodel in-house. Many North Miami homes have details worth keeping, like terrazzo floors and windows that look out on mature trees. A smart kitchen remodel works with those details instead of covering them up. This project pairs modern slab cabinets and fresh tile with the home’s natural light and that classic speckled floor.
MIA Remodeling builds kitchens throughout Miami-Dade, including North Miami, Miami Shores, Miami Gardens and Aventura. Explore our kitchen remodeling services or our custom kitchen design process to see how we start.

Read It Like a Layer Cake
The easiest way to understand this kitchen is to read it from top to bottom. Each layer has its own job, and together they make a compact U-shaped room feel warm, bright and finished.
Why Wood on Top Works
Most kitchens put the darker or warmer finish on the bottom. Here, the wood sits at eye level and above, where you see it every time you walk in. It warms up the room instantly and draws the eye up toward the ceiling, which makes the space feel taller.
The Blue Band
The backsplash is the color moment. Long subway tiles in a deep blue-gray run the full length of the counters, with a glossy finish that catches daylight from the window. Because each tile varies slightly in tone, the wall has depth instead of looking like a flat paint color.
One pendant, big impact
Instead of a row of matching lights, a single statement pendant hangs over the peninsula. A slim brass oval frames a white glass globe, so it glows softly at night and looks like a piece of art by day.
The Full U
From the peninsula, you can see the whole kitchen at once: the refrigerator framed in wood on the left, the range and hood on the back wall, and the sink under the window on the right, with the dishwasher right next to it. Everything is a step or two away.

FAQs
North Miami Kitchen Remodel FAQs
Is it okay to make the upper cabinets warmer or darker than the lowers?
Absolutely. It's less common, which is part of the appeal. Warm uppers bring color up to eye level, while white lowers keep the floor area bright. It works especially well when the backsplash ties the two together, like the blue tile does here.
Will a dark blue backsplash make my kitchen feel smaller?
Not when it's balanced. A glossy finish reflects light, white counters and lower cabinets keep the room bright, and a window nearby brings in daylight. A deep color in a band like this adds depth rather than closing the room in.
Can I keep my terrazzo floor during a kitchen remodel?
Often, yes. Terrazzo is durable and many homeowners love it. The key is planning cabinet and appliance placement around it and protecting the floor during construction. We look at its condition during the design visit and talk through the options.
Do black stainless appliances go with wood cabinets?
They pair well. The dark finish looks rich next to warm wood grain and doesn't compete with it the way bright stainless sometimes can. Repeating black elsewhere, like the faucet, helps the look feel intentional.
One statement pendant or a row of lights over a peninsula?
It depends on the length of the counter. On a shorter peninsula, one bold fixture can carry the whole space, as long as recessed lighting covers the work areas. Longer counters usually need two or three fixtures for even light.
Does a North Miami kitchen remodel need a permit?
Work that relocates plumbing, adds electrical or alters walls generally goes through the City of North Miami for permits and inspections. With our general contractor license (CGC1535875) and plumbing license (CFC1434602), MIA files the applications and meets the inspectors on site.
