Walk-In Shower Conversion in Miami, From Old Tub to Modern Shower

Convert your unused tub into a spacious walk-in shower with custom tile, frameless glass, and a properly sloped, flood-tested pan. Designed in 3D, built watertight, and finished in about a week.

Walk-In Showers

The Tub Nobody Uses Is Wasted Space

Most Miami homes have at least one bathtub that hasn’t seen a bath in years. It takes up a third of the bathroom, it’s a climbing hazard, and it makes the whole room feel dated. A tub-to-shower conversion turns that footprint into a spacious walk-in shower: easier to use every day, safer to step into, and the single upgrade that most modernizes a bathroom.

MIA handles walk-in shower conversions across Miami with our own crew end to end: demolition, plumbing by our in-house licensed plumbers, waterproofing membrane, sloped shower pan, custom tile, and glass. The part you never see, the waterproofing behind the tile, is the part we’re strictest about. Every pan is flood-tested before a single tile is set.

A shower conversion works as a standalone project. If you’re rethinking the whole room, it also anchors a full bathroom remodel, often paired with a new vanity installation while the crew is already there.

The Conversion, Specified

What a standard MIA tub-to-shower conversion includes. Every line handled by our own crew, nothing subcontracted out.

Demolition

Remove the tub, surround, and wall tile down to the studs; protect floors and contain dust.

Plumbing

Convert tub valve to shower valve, relocate the drain, set the new rough-in by our licensed plumbers.

Pan & Waterproofing

Build the sloped shower pan, install the waterproofing membrane on pan and walls, then flood-test for 24 hours.

Tile

Set wall and floor tile with leveled, lippage-free lines; build the niche; grout and seal.

Glass & Finish

Measure and install the frameless or semi-frameless enclosure, set fixtures, silicone, final clean, and function check.

How It Works

How the Conversion Works

01

Consultation & Measure

We assess the tub footprint, drain location, and wall condition, then scope the conversion against your budget with honest recommendations.
02

3D Design & Materials

Tile, glass, niche, and fixtures rendered in 3D. Materials ordered before demo so the project never stalls waiting on tile.
03

Permits

Plumbing changes require Miami-Dade permits. We pull them and manage inspections so the work is documented and code-compliant.04 Build, Flood-Test & Finish

Build, Flood-Test & Finish

Demo, plumbing, pan, waterproofing with a 24-hour flood test, tile, glass, and a punch-list walkthrough with written warranty.

Choose Your Shower Style

Every conversion is designed in 3D so you approve the exact result before demo.

Curbed Walk-In Shower

A low tile curb with a frameless glass panel or door. The most popular conversion: clean lines, easy entry, and full water containment in the old tub footprint.

Curbless / Zero-Entry Shower

No curb at all, the floor flows straight into the shower. The high-end hotel look, and the safest entry for aging in place. Requires recessing the pan, which we assess on-site.

Accessible & Aging-in-Place

Curbless entry, built-in bench, grab bars anchored in blocking (not drywall), handheld shower head, and slip-rated tile. Safety that doesn't look clinical.

Custom Tile & Rainfall Showers

Floor-to-ceiling large-format porcelain, rainfall and handheld combos, recessed niches, and LED niches. The conversion that makes the bathroom the best room in the house.

FAQ

Walk-In Shower Conversions, Answered

How much does a tub-to-shower conversion cost in Miami?

It depends on tile selection, glass type, whether the drain moves, and extras like a bench or niche. A straightforward conversion in the existing footprint costs far less than a curbless build with floor-to-ceiling stone. We give you an exact number after a free on-site measure.

Construction typically runs five to eight working days, including the 24-hour flood test. Frameless glass is measured after tile and takes about a week to fabricate, so the enclosure is installed as a short return visit.

The standard advice is to keep at least one tub in the home for families with small children. If another bathroom has a tub, converting this one to a walk-in shower typically helps value, not hurts it. If it's the only tub, we'll talk through the trade-off honestly before you commit.

Yes. Converting the valve and moving the drain is plumbing work, which Miami-Dade permits and inspects. We pull the permits and handle every inspection as part of the job.

Often yes, but it depends on the slab. Recessing the pan into a post-tension slab needs engineering review, and the building's approval. We assess feasibility on-site and manage the HOA process; see our condo remodeling service for how approvals work.

The waterproofing membrane behind the tile and the slope of the pan, not the tile or grout themselves. That's why we membrane the full wet area and flood-test the pan for 24 hours before tiling. Tile is the finish; the membrane is the shower.
